Christ on the Cross - Rembrandt
"And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness
over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth
hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama
sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God,
why hast thou forsaken me?" (Mr 15:33-34 av) |
"When it was noon, darkness came over the whole land until
three in the afternoon. At three o’clock Jesus cried out
with a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?" which
means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"" (Mr
15:33-34 NRSV) |
"When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said,
It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the
ghost." (Joh 19:30 av) |
"When Jesus had received the wine, he said, "It is
finished." Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." (Joh
19:30 NRSV) |
"Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be
exalted and extolled, and be very high. As many were
astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any
man, and his form more than the sons of men: So shall he
sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at
him: for that which had not been told them shall they
see; and that which they had not heard shall they
consider. Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the
arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as
a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath
no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there
is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised
and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with
grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he
was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne
our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him
stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was
wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for
our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was
upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." (Isa
52:13-53:5 av) |
"See, my servant shall
prosper; he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be
very high. Just as there were many who were astonished at
him—so marred was his appearance, beyond human semblance,
and his form beyond that of mortals— so he shall startle
many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of him;
for that which had not been told them they shall see, and
that which they had not heard they shall contemplate. Who
has believed what we have heard? And to whom has the arm of
the LORD been revealed? For he grew up before him like a
young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no
form or majesty that we should look at him, nothing in his
appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and
rejected by others; a man of suffering and acquainted with
infirmity; and as one from whom others hide their faces he
was despised, and we held him of no account. Surely he has
borne our infirmities and carried our diseases; yet we
accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our
iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole,
and by his bruises we are healed." (Isa 52:13-53:5 NRSV) |
